Access keys

Access keys are keyboard shortcuts on a website that give a keyboard or screen-reader user quick and easy access to all the main areas of the site.

Different browsers use different keystrokes to activate accesskey shortcuts. The key combinations for the most common browsers are:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer
Alt + the number of the access key, followed by Enter
  • Firefox:
Alt + Shift + the number of the access key
  • Safari:
Ctrl + Command (apple) + the number of the access key

The access keys for Boots Learning Store are as follows:

  • 0 - Accessibility information
  • 1 - Home page
  • 2 - Skip to main content of current page
  • 3 - Site map
  • 4 - Search
  • 5 - Teacher section
  • 6 - Parents section
  • 7 - About section
  • 8 - Terms & Conditions
  • 9 - Contact and Feedback section

Skip navigation and content links

Each page on the website has two links at the top, hidden from ordinary web browsers.

One enables a keyboard or screen-reader user to skip past the navigation menu to get the main content and the other enables the user to skip the straight to the content in the right hand column, without having to go through the main content.

To use these links press the Tab key (once to skip to the content, twice to skip to the right hand column content) then press Enter.
